Hearts close in on deal for Danny Wilson

Liverpool's youngster Danny Wilson

HEARTS are close to signing Danny Wilson permanently on a long-term contract. Talks between player and club are at an advanced stage and both parties are near an agreement to keep the Scotland internationalist at Tynecastle.

Wilson’s loan from Liverpool is due to expire and his Anfield contract will not be extended into next season. Discussions with Hearts have been ongoing for several weeks and are now nearing a conclusion, which would see the 21-year-old
become Gary Locke’s first
signing as manager.

Hearts are now free of all signing restrictions imposed by the Scottish Premier League last season for their failure to pay wages and bonuses on time. They will be able to register new players when the summer transfer window officially opens on July 1.

Despite ongoing uncertainty over finances with parent company Ukio Bankas Investment Group on the brink of administration, Locke is continuing to prepare for next season and is keen to recruit several new faces.

Signing Wilson would be a popular move with supporters following his steady performances in 14 appearances since he joined Hearts on loan from Liverpool in January.

As the defender prepares to secure his future, another Hearts player is looking for a new club. Midfielder Mehdi Taouil was released yesterday two years into a three-year contract. Hearts opted not to take up their option of an extra year having deemed him surplus to requirements for next season.

He made 68 appearances during his two-year stay in

ESPN: Eriksen stalls on new contract

Christian Eriksen is stalling over a new contract at Ajax amid reported interest from Liverpool.

Denmark international Eriksen, who turns 21 this month, has long been linked with a move to the Premier League for many months, with a number of top European clubs also having reportedly expressed an interest.

Liverpool would appear to be leading the race and are said to be readying a bid for the summer.

Ajax technical director Marc Overmars has confirmed Eriksen has declined to sign an extension to his current deal, which expires in the summer of 2014, as he is considering his future with the Eredivisie giants.

“Christian has informed us that he doesn’t want to sign a new contract right now,” Overmars told “I think he and his agent want to see what opportunities present themselves this summer.”

He added: “We want him to stay here for at least two more years, but the day he leaves us, he will be ready to play for the very best. He’s a player even the biggest clubs in the world could do with having in their squad.”

Eriksen’s agent, Martin Schoots, said in BNB: “Anything Marc or Christian have said about it is correct, but we’ve agreed that we don’t want to talk about the speculation too much. Christian wants to focus solely on football and not so much on his future.”

In October, Eriksen had said he was flattered by links with Liverpool but remained focused on Ajax. adds that Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also considering a move for Eriksen, but Manchester United’s interest has cooled.

Manchester City is in the market for a new striker after Mario Balotelli’s departure

Manchester City face Liverpool tomorrow at the Eithad Stadium and reports have surfaced that Roberto Mancini is willing to sign striker Luis Suarez for a fee of £40m in the summer.

City are left with three strikers after the club decided to sell uncontrollable Mario Balotelli to AC Milan in the January transfer window. When asked who would City buy as a replacement for Balotelli, Mancini sang praises for the Liverpool’s 26-year-old flamboyant striker.

“Suarez for me is a top player,” the Italian told reporters. “I like him because he is strong and he works hard.

“For me, he is one of the best in England.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like his quality. He has quality and he is strong.”

When asked if Luis Suarez would become a City player in the future, Mancini replied “Suarez? But he plays for Liverpool.”

Luis Suarez has been in top form for Liverpool this season, scoring 17 goals in 23 matches and City will have to fork out a huge sum of money to lure him away from Anfield.

However, in a recent interview, Luis Suarez asserted his loyalty to Liverpool and its fans and said that he will continue to be Liverpool player even if they don’t qualify for Champions League football this season.
